Nike Lightning Bolts
I was asked to create a number plate for the final Nike Lightning Bolts art show. The Lightning Bolts project was based around the introduction of BMX in the 2008 Beijing Olympics where artists were giving a number plate based off of Bob Haro's original Lightning Bolts plate. After throwing around a bunch of ideas I came across one of the very first original Lightning Bolts plates that Bob Haro hand cut out of plastic. I based my colors and design of the original plate, but rather than painting, I pulled colors and textures out of an old Sears catalog from the 70's. My plate was shown at the final show in L.A. in the Montalban theater and auctioned off with the proceeds going to the Athlete Recover Fund. Helping injured action sports athletes with medical bills. You can check out the process of creating the plate on my blog.
