I was digging through some old files last night and found some stuff that I thought might be fun to post. This is a photo of one of my best friends, Josh, in Seattle in like 2004. I had a school project where I needed to take some photos. I had shot a bunch of natural light stuff, but I wanted to get a night shot with a flash. Up until this photo I had only really shot with a flash one or two times. I borrowed my friend Mike Leask’s flash, had him help me with some settings, ran into the street with Josh and took the photo. We are on Pike street on Capitol Hill, right near Goods in Seattle and I was shooting with my very first SLR, a Minolta X-570, that I still have today. I remember being so psyched that a flash photo that I shot actually turned out.

I’m not sure why, but I still shoot way more natural light stuff than I do with flashes. I think it probably has to do with the fact that I really love seaking out natural light and that I’ve never had a good flash setup. But lately I’ve been real psyched on flash stuff… Maybe the next few years will be my flash years?? Who knows. I just know it’s rad to spend a few hours here and there and check out old work. I’ll post a few more photos that I dug up soon.

We got hitched!

So, I’m a bit late, but I just had to chill last week because on the 17th Michaela and I got married! The wedding was amazing and we had such a great time. I didn’t really know what to expect. I’ve been to weddings, but I don’t think anything can compare to your own wedding. The nerves, the organizing, people everywhere, and just all the chaos that goes into a wedding is almost impossible to prepare for. All of those things were definitely present during our wedding, but I don’t think it could have gone better. Everything we planned worked out, I actually felt way more relaxed than I was expecting. It was basically just like a big dinner party with our friends and family. It was really cool to have everyone we cared about in the same place at the same time. We had the wedding at a hotel in Sidney B.C. (on Vancouver Island). Almost everyone came up a few days early and we had a blast just chilling in our suite, going to the beach and just spending time with everyone. Andrew McMullen shot photos and I have really procrastinated editing them. We have like 13 gigs of digital stuff and 11 rolls of film! I messed with a few photos for the MacNeil site and got back most of the 35mm film. I’ll do a big post once I get everything edited, but for now, you can check out a few of the 35mm stuff on Flickr, some fun shots on Jill Kintner’s blog, the digial stuff on MacNeil and Andrew’s blog.  I also started a group on Flickr, so if you were there, upload your photos to the group, so we can all check em out!

Hit the J. Crew outlet on the drive from Seattle to Vancouver. Got a bunch of good stuff and only spent $32.

I’ve had this wallet for a while… It was just sitting next to me as I was taking photos and I thought it would be cool to snap a pic of it. It’s funny how blue it’s turned from my denim. The leather is aging amazingly though. I love this wallet!

Last Days of Sun

We are back from Hawaii and I’m not enjoying the crazy rain and 8ft snow piles on the sidewalks in Vancouver… I wish we never had to come home! Our vacation to Kauai was amazing and it was one of the best vacations I’ve had for a long time. I actually let go, closed my computer (aside from updating a blog here and there), turned off my phone, and just escaped from the real world for a bit. Our main goal for the trip was to just chill and I think we really accomplished that. Most of our days were spent like this: Eat a nice breakfast, pack some lunch, spend the mornings at the beach, eat some food in the sun, stop for shave ice, head home and chill by the pool till around four, go for a jog, shower up, and cook and mean dinner. Out of the seven days we were there, we only had dinner out once, for New Year’s… Cooking with Josh and Shanti really got my psyched to do more cooking at home. Speaking of Josh and Shanti, they were amazing hosts and a big thanks goes out to them for letting Michaela and I crash their vacation!! Thanks guys!

Here some photos from the last few days… Now back to wedding stuff… Michaela and I are getting married in under two weeks, there’s sooo much to do…. Crazy!!!

More Hawaii and New Years

Here are some photos from New Year’s. The weather is kind of crappy right now, so we are trying to figure out what to do today… It’s not raining, but it’s pretty cloudy… Hopefully it clears up and we can go to the beach!
