I was digging through some old files last night and found some stuff that I thought might be fun to post. This is a photo of one of my best friends, Josh, in Seattle in like 2004. I had a school project where I needed to take some photos. I had shot a bunch of natural light stuff, but I wanted to get a night shot with a flash. Up until this photo I had only really shot with a flash one or two times. I borrowed my friend Mike Leask’s flash, had him help me with some settings, ran into the street with Josh and took the photo. We are on Pike street on Capitol Hill, right near Goods in Seattle and I was shooting with my very first SLR, a Minolta X-570, that I still have today. I remember being so psyched that a flash photo that I shot actually turned out.
I’m not sure why, but I still shoot way more natural light stuff than I do with flashes. I think it probably has to do with the fact that I really love seaking out natural light and that I’ve never had a good flash setup. But lately I’ve been real psyched on flash stuff… Maybe the next few years will be my flash years?? Who knows. I just know it’s rad to spend a few hours here and there and check out old work. I’ll post a few more photos that I dug up soon.
