This was the very first ad I did for MacNeil. I could write so much about this, but I have to go to sleep… To say the least. I was so psyched to get to A, do a full spread B, do a ad of Ruben and C, use a Joe Rich photo…

I’ve been working on the portfolio side of my site a bit today. I did some layout editing and added a few new projects. I just uploaded my Nike Lightning Bolts plate, some Levi’s t-shrits and the mag I did for Tuff Love a while back. I’ll have a few more projects to put in there this week and now that I have it all set up to how I like it, I’ll be keeping it updated way more.
I also posted a few photos in a new section Nuno and I started on Defgrip called “captured”. It’s like a mini autophoto for the Defgrip crew, where we tell the story behind a photo. Check that out here!
Oh, I’ve also been psyched on Twitter again. I downloaded Tweet Deck and it’s made my whole Twitter expierence much better. Follow me on Twitter!

I’ve been on the hunt for a new film camera for a while. I lost my Yashica T4 in Vegas last October and started the hunt looking for a new point and shoot. I had decided I was going to go with a Contax T2 rather than a Yashica and bid on a few T2′s on ebay. I’m not up on all the ebay secretes and was out bid at the last second on all the cameras I was into. I wasn’t in a rush, so I kept my eye out and continued to read up on the cameras. I’ve been into Contax for a while and have always liked the G1′s and G2′s, their rangefinders. I bought my first rangefinder, a Canon Canonet, on ebay a little over a year ago and have had a lot of fun with it. I recently just started using the flash and shot a few photos at this Red Bull DJ thing I went to with the MacNeil crew (check the photos here).
After a post I did on Defgrip about point and shoot cameras, I got a lot of emails from friends giving me feedback on the p&s cameras they have and what they think I should get. Everyone was backing up the T2, but for some reason, I was feeling like I wanted more of a camera right now. I had finally decided what I was going to get and my plan was to get a T2 now and a G2 for the summer… I’m not sure what happened, but that plan quickly went south when Chad Moore pointed me to keh.com. They had a nice selection of Contax and a lot of options for the G2′s. Michaela and I had decided to get each other wedding gifts. I got here some earrings at Tiffany’s, but I had yet to pick my gift… What better way to spend someone you love’s money than on cameras… So that was pretty much it. The gift/keh… I was going for the G2.
I picked up a body that is in amazing condition… Looks brand new. I went with the f2 45mm lens and a TLA 200 flash and since you can never ship anything good to Canada, I had it shipped to my mom’s in Seattle. I picked the camera on my way to Portland and have had nothing but good luck with it. The quality and clarity of the photos are amazing and I’m super psyched I went with the G2. I’m still trying to get comfortable with the autofocus, but things like that come with time behind the lens.
I still think I’ll pick up a T2 because there is nothing like throwing a camera in your back pocket, but I’m not sure if I’ll use anything more than the G2 for a long time. Here’s a few shots of the first roll I ran through it. I think the film was just some drugstore bought Fuji Super HQ and I got them processed and scanned at the drug store… No better way to go! Hahaha. Oh, the photos are from a little poker game that I definitely didn’t win at Chris Martindale, Casey, and Josh’s place, with Josh Kechloian, Brian Chase, Burley, and Andrew McMullen.
You can check out all my G2 photos on Flickr here.

I just did a post about my trip to Portland on Defgrip you can see the text below and you can check the photos out here.
Andrew McMullen and I took a trip to Portland last week to meet up with a few people, hang out and work on some new video interviews for the site. We had an amazing trip and we really enjoyed Portland. We happened to be down for First Thursday, where all the galleries have their new shows opening and Sierra from Nike took us around for the evening and we got to check out some awesome shows. We hung out with Ryan Barrett, chilled with Rich Hirsch, met up with Mark Lewman at the design firm he’s a partner in, Nemo. We got to chill with Lewman for a bit and he gave us the grand tour of Nemo and while we were there, we saw an amazing photo show by photographer Danielle Levitt who has a book out with Powerhouse. We spent some time with Jordan Hufnagel, spent a lot of time at Powell’s Books and went to a really good show with Barrett and his roommate Adam, who works at Nemo. Adam designed some screen printed posters for the show that were amazing. Nemo has a poster project where every month they take some time out from doing client work and have some fun designing and printing posters. Check out a video for the poster/show we went to for Talk Demonic.
Big thanks to everyone we hung out with and a huge thanks to Aaron Lutze for letting us crash at his place!

Amazing… I had never seen this album cover for whatever reason, probably because I don’t really know much about Grace Jones, but I’ve had this on my computer for a few months and every time I come across it, I stare at it for like five minutes. The whole cutting and pasting of her hair and mouth has this really childish but yet so conceptual aspect to it. I completely love how they left the pieces of tape in and also used a sticker from a roll of film or something near her hair. The cover has this whole “fuck you” feel to it, like she just doesn’t give a fuck that her mouth is like 10x to tall… With the whole cut and paste thing, but also the look in her eyes. The cover wouldn’t be as amazing if the photo didn’t suit it so well… There is also a nice use of Trade Gothic for the type. Nothing crazy to distract you from the image, but not dull enough to bore you.
I found this video with a few shots of the creation of the album. Not sure if this is the actual video to this song, but it is also pretty incredible. I’m going to go and listen to Grace Jones now.
