LA to Vancouver

Los Angeles was a blast! We did so much in our short trip and I can’t wait to go back. Here’s a few photos from my phone… It’s funny, because the more I go down to California, the less I take photos… My first trip this year, I took hundreds of photos and this last trip I took a few riding shots and a few digi shots with my Leica… No film and I even drug my Canonet with me… Oh well… Next trip I should only shoot film.

Down in LA again! Jay and I drove down to Seattle so I could vote and I was so psyched to be in the States durrimg the election. So much energy!! We flew Virgin America, ha a nice flight, then as soon as I got in town, I headed over to the Ludwig office to chill with those guys. We have a bunch of stuff planned and we are heading to Oakley now. Should be a good trip!

Back At It

It’s been a while with no updates. I’ve been working on a new portfolio site and I’m building it with Wordpress. I was toying the idea around of having my blog and all my work on the same blog, just separating it with different category styles. The whole design process was going really well, but I got caught up in creating a template to style individual posts differently. For example, when you clicked on a blog entry (say this one), I wanted it to look different than if you were to click on a specific project. I got really close, but just gave up and built a separate blog for my work… During all this, I change the directory of my blog and didn’t really want to do any posts till I got it figured out, because I’d have to manually change the url for all my images… It’s a bit dry and complicated, but I’ve learned a lot about Wordpress and I’m excited to use it as more than just a blog… I’m also using this as a learning experience for me, so I can start using it more as a light CMS for my client work.

I haven’t shot many photos lately, mainly because I haven’t gone on any trips and have pretty much just been working… I did take the time to whipe my whole G5 down, re-install the OS and all my apps, add 2 gigs of ram and a 500 gig internal HD! I’ve had my computer for over three years and it was definitely time for some upgrades. It’s been running great and I can’t wait to get a new Cinema Display to go along with my upgrades! I’m also on the fence weather or not I shuould get a new MacBook… I got my black one in March and It’s perfect… 2.4ghz w/ 4 gigs of ram… I don’t really need a new one, I’d just really like one… Hey, if anyone out there want’s to buy my black MacBook, hit me up!

Eames LCW

Just got or second Eames LCW the other day. Michaela got me our first lcw for my brithday this past summer and we just added number two to our collection… This is now our sixth piece of Eames furnature… I think it’s time to mess with some new designers for a bit… All we need now is a bigger apartment. I wouldn’t mind a Kartell Louis Ghost Arm Chair next… A Tolomeo Mega lamp would be dope as well…

Oh, the Defgrip X Lotek Nightwolfs are out now. I’m psyched on how they turned out. I guess they were pretty much sold out before they even shipped… Pretty rad!

It doesn’t get much better than this! A Lambo Countach, Ferrari, and a nice old Benz all randomly I’m the same place at the same time… It doesn’t get much better than this!!!

Palihouse

We stayed at this amazing hotel called the Palihouse. I guess it’s more of a long-term type hotel for people traveling to LA for more than a week to do business and stuff. On their site you can only book it for a min of seven days, but we were able to book it for three nights through tablethotels.com. I really loved the whole theme of the place and their eclectic mix of older classic furniture with a nice minimal feel really inspired me. It was a nice break for all the Design Within Reach catalog hotels… I loved the couch and the black carpet was dope! We got their smallest room and it was set up like a studio apartment with a full kitchen, washer/dryer, and the sleeping and living areas had a nice little separation. This hotel was so great and is probably one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in. If you are going to LA soon, definitely look into this place!

West Hollywood

Michaela and I had a blast in LA. Due to a bunch of bullshit with my license/work visa I didn’t have a license and we weren’t able to rent a car, but Mike Ardelean and Nuno came through and really mad our trip work! Mike was amazing, he picked me up from the airport on Friday, took me out to dinner in Venice, then drove back to the airport to pick Michaela up, then took us to our hotel! Thanks so much Mike, you don’t know how great it is to have amazing friends.

On Saturday Michaela and I wondered down to Melrose and hit a few stores in the morning, then we met up with Mike and Stacey in the afternoon and they took us around the city. We checked out the Nike pop-up store that was in a movie theater with a rad Geoff McFetridge wallpaper piece on the exterior, checked out a few more streets, had some dinner, then headed over to Silver Lake for some drinks!

Sunday we chilled with Nuno and Polly. We started at the Grove mall, then hit the Fairfax flea market, then back to Melrose where we all got some good stuff at the Marc By Marc Jacobs store… I hadn’t been to that store before and I was psyched. There was a lot of good pieces and it was quite afordable… I picked up some tan jeans for $78! Michaela, Nuno, Polly and I all walked a way with some good purchases. We hit Opening Ceremony next and that was a whole different story. It really reminded me of The Dover Street Market in London. Lots of small rooms filled with some of the best brands in the world. Nuno picked up an amazing Opening Ceremony jacket and Michaela got a rad top… I was thinking about this Nom De Guerre cardigan, but I had to sleep on it. Nuno and Polly headed home and we met up with Mike for a drink at the Chateau Marmont.

Monday consisted of Michaela and I walking waaaay to much. We ended up back at Opening Ceremony and broke down and went for the cardigan… Nicki Hilton was shopping there while we were there… and we were the only people in the store… pretty funny… We headed back to our hotel, took a extremely crazy cab ride to the airport then headed home…

Like all of my trips to LA I had a blast and it was rad for Michaela to get to go there for her first time. I wish we had our own car, so we could of spent more time outside of West Hollywood, but there will definitely be a next time! Thanks to Mike, Stacey, Nuno and Polly… You guys were great!

Los Vegas to Los Angeles

Vegas was fun and it went by so fast! It was rad to get to hang with everyone, the parties were fun and I even had fun playing some blackjack! Me and Harookz held down a table at the Hard Rock last night. I didn’t win much, but at least I walked away up a few dollars. Harookz, Justin Kosman, and Stu Dawkins all won hundreds of dollars. So good!!!

I’m just sitting in the airport now wating to go to LA. Michaela is meeting me there tonight and we are going to hang out for the weekend. It should be fun!
