Slovika in Film

Visiting Michaela’s family in Slovika was interesting. They couldn’t speak English and I can’t speak a word of Slovakian, so with out Michaela or her mom around, not much conversing went on. One thing her family could clearly see with out speaking to me is that I’m very much into photography and cameras. While I was there Michaela’s aunt and uncle each gave me one camera, both old film camera. I was extremely excited and very thankful and for anyone who’s been to my house, they know I like old cameras! The photos below were shot one of the two cameras, a Praktica Super TL 35mm.

LA in Photos

Andrew and I headed down to LA before Interbike in Vegas last month. We only had three days, but we made them count. We hit the beach, rode bikes, did some shopping and hung out with friends. LA is always a blast and I really need to go there more! I was on a “once a month” schedule last year and I loved it! Hopefully I’ll be back soon. Andrew Nuno, and I compiled our favorite photos from the weekend and put together a Photogallery on Defgrip. You can check that right here.

Bratislava

I did a lot of traveling over the past two weeks. It started out with three days in LA to work on Defgrip features, then four days in Vegas for Interbike. Flew to Seattle from Vegas and got in at like 11pm, then I had to drive to Vancouver, re-pack and catch a 9am flight to Vienna the next morning. I went out there to meet up with Michaela and visit her family in Bratislava, Slovakia. The trip was amazing (but quick) and I can’t wait to go back. Michaela had been there for a week, but I spent four days in Bratislava and one day in Vienna. I shot A LOT of photos, but here’s a few that I edited while I was on the trip. The first shot is Vienna and the rest are Bratislava.

New York in August

Just a second ago, when I was titling this post, I had to actually look up what month my brother Hamilton and I went to New York to visit my mom. I initially thought we went in July, just because it feels like it was so long ago, but we were out there from August 1st – 7th… Well we were supposed to be there until the 6th, but we flew standby and ended up sitting in the airport for 17hrs one day and 12hrs the next. All the flights we were trying to get on were full and we had an amazingly hectic time getting home. Luckily we were able to chill in the first class lounge, but after two days of trying to get on every flight we could, even connections, I broke down and bought a one way ticket home. Hamilton was had already missed the one thing he was trying to get home for, so he had made up his mind and was just going to stay in NY for the weekend. The best part about me buying a ticket was they only had first class available… So I buy a ticket for a 7pm flight, Hamilton decided to stay at the airport and try one last time to get on the 6pm flight, my plan was to try to get on standby for the 6pm and if it was full, I’d be set for the 7pm, but just as our luck had it, we both got on the 6pm flight no problem… And I ended up buying the one way first class ticket for no reason… haha… Oh well, I’m sure I’ll use the ticket sometime soon…

Back to the actual trip… My mom had been in NY for the majority of the summer… She’s wanted to move to the city and while looking for apartments, she came across a family that wanted to do a house swap with someone in Seattle… The house swap thing worked out perfect and my mom got an apartment in NY for the summer! I got sick like two days into the trip, so aside from spending a day in Brooklyn, Hamilton and I pretty much just walked around Manhattan and hung out in the apartment. We did get to meet up with our cousins Andrew, Danny, Tommy, and Vinny for dinner on our last night. Out of all the kids our age, we are the only ones that live on the west coast, so it was rad to get to see them!

No matter what, it’s always great to spend some time in the city and I can’t wait to get back. Here’s a bunch of iPhone photos from the trip!

New York in May

Last month Andrew and I went to New York to do some Defgrip interviews and all I could think about on the trip was how I want to go back to NY as much as possible. Well, a few weeks later my mom was planning this small wedding party for Michaela and I on the east coast with all of my moms family that couldn’t make it out for our wedding. The trip was rad and it was great to see everyone. We spent a few days in New Jersey a day in PA, then three days in the city! Here’s some photos from my phone.
